Moderation settings, mobile analytics, and 10+ improvements
Keeping the momentum going as we roll into March, the Circle team has been hard at work shipping lots of core improvements to the platform.
We have some big releases coming up in the next couple months, but February was a month full of some smaller but much-needed updates.
Read on to find out what’s new for your community this month 👇
New moderation settings
We’ve released new moderation settings to help you better manage and maintain healthy discussions, and to prevent spammers or trollers.
To turn on these settings for your community, navigate to the main dropdown menu and select Moderation. You’ll find these new options by clicking on the Settings button on the Moderation page:
Reported moderation
Settings you can enable to automatically flag and hide posts once they’ve been reported:
- Flag a post or comment after it’s been reported X times
After a post or comment has been reported a set number of times, it will be flagged for review and hidden until approved. - Flag a post or comment if reported by an admin or moderator
After a post or comment has been reported by an admin or moderator it will be flagged for review and hidden until approved.
Pre-emptive moderation
Settings you can enable to preemptively flag and hide new posts before they get reported:
- Flag all new posts or comments
All new posts or comments will be automatically flagged for review and hidden until approved. Excludes posts and comments from admins and moderators. - First post or comment approval
New posts and comments by members who haven’t posted anything yet will be flagged for review and hidden until their first post or comment is approved. Excludes posts and comments from admins and moderators. - Flag all new posts or comments in a space
Any new posts or comments in selected spaces will be flagged for review and hidden until approved. Excludes posts and comments from admins and moderators.
Additionally, you can now disable repetitive notifications so if a member has already been reported, you won’t receive any notifications for their newly flagged posts or comments.

Mobile analytics
We’re making some big improvements to Analytics soon, starting with Mobile analytics! Rollout begins in a couple weeks, and will be available to all communities by March 31.
This mobile dashboard will allow you to see a precise breakdown of your active members by device — broken down by desktop web, mobile web, Circle iOS, Circle Android, and branded apps using Circle Plus.
If your community has mobile apps enabled, the Active members stats and graphs in the Overview and Members analytics tabs will include mobile active members once this is rolled out by the end of March. Previously, active members referred just to members who visited your site on desktop or mobile web, but not to members who accessed your community via Circle’s mobile apps or your branded Circle Plus apps.
Once your community has access to the new mobile analytics dashboard, you may see an increase of anywhere from 5-30% in active members when you filter from Jan 2024 onwards, based on how many of your members access your community via the mobile app alone.
Note: If a member visits your community on both the mobile app and your website in the same month, they count as just one unique active member.
If you have any questions or concerns about this change, please feel free to contact our team at support@circle.so.
Members can now RSVP with a “Not going” status
When members RSVP to your events, they can now do so with a Not going status.
As an event creator or admin, this means you can finally differentiate between those who haven’t RSVP’d yet, and those who RSVP’d with the Not going status by clicking into the Attendees tab on an event’s edit page.
In the coming weeks, we’ll also be adding RSVP status as a field to the attendee list CSV export.
Control whether members can self-cancel subscription paywalls
We’ve added a new toggle that allows you to control whether members can self-cancel their subscription paywalls.
To allow or prevent self-cancellation, navigate to your community’s main drop down menu, and select Paywalls. Choose the subscription paywall you’d like to update and click Edit. On the Pricing tab, toggle on or off Allow members to self-cancel their subscription.
Note: This feature is only available for subscription type paywalls. Other paywall types will still require your members to contact an admin to cancel the subscription.
Preview your community as a paywall or invitation link member
Curious how your community appears to new members or subscribers?
Now you can use the View as feature to see how your community displays for each paywall or invitation link you’ve created.
To view your community as a paywall or invitation link, click on your community name in the top left of your header, and click View as. If you have active paywalls and invitation links, you’ll be able to select them from the dropdown.
Once you’ve selected your desired link, your community will appear in the configuration you’ve chosen for that link.

Chat space notification preferences
You and your members can now choose how you get notified about messages and mentions in chat spaces.
There are three notification options for chat spaces:
- All messages
Get push notifications to your mobile device for all messages in this chat space, as well as in-app notifications for @mentions. - Mentions
Get in-app and mobile push notifications for @mentions only in this chat space. - Off
You won’t receive any notifications.
To change your notification preferences in a chat space, navigate to the space, click on the bell icon in the top right hand corner, and select the option you prefer.

Other improvements
Automatic link unfurling in chat: Now whenever you copy and paste a community link into the text editor in a DM or chat space, it will automatically reformat into an easily identifiable community named link.
New media settings for course lessons: The option to enable featured media and comments have been consolidated under Settings. Additionally, the Make Downloadable option for video and audio files have also been incorporated into Settings.
Filtering updates for Members, Member Directory, and Workflows: You can now add the same filter twice with differing conditions to help narrow down your search, e.g. Name is Peter + Name is not Parker. We’ll also be moving array filters (filters with multiple value selections like Spaces or Tags) to single value selection — to select multiple values, you can add the same filter again. Over the coming weeks, we plan to offer an “is not” option for array filters too.
Update notification preferences without logging in: Your members can now update their notification preferences from an email notification without needing to login to their Circle account. To try this out, simply click on Change notification settings in the email notification to make adjustments to your preferences.
